Brown Sugar Chocolate Cake
Ingredients - 2 cup sifted cake flour
- 2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup shortening
- 2 cup firmly packed brown sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 4 squares unsweetened chocolate, melted
- 1 cup milk, plus 2 tablespoons
Directions - Set oven for moderate, 350f.
- Grease and flour two 8-inch round cake pans.
- Sift together the first 4 ingredients.
- Cream shortening; add sugar gradually; beat until fluffy.
- Add eggs, one at a time: beat well after each addition.
- Stir in vanilla and chocolate.
- Add sifted dry ingredients, a little at a time, alternately with milk; stir only enough to blend well.
- Pour into pans.
- Bake 30 minutes or until top springs back when lightly touched with fingertip.
- Cool in pans 5 minutes.
- Remove; cool on a rack; frost.
