  Brown Sugar Chocolate Cake
  Ingredients  
  • 2  cup sifted cake flour
  • 2  teaspoon  baking powder
  • 1/2  teaspoon  baking soda
  • 1/2  teaspoon  salt
  • 1/2  cup  shortening
  • 2  cup firmly packed brown sugar
  • 2    eggs
  • 1  teaspoon  vanilla
  • 4   squares unsweetened chocolate, melted
  • 1  cup  milk, plus 2 tablespoons

  Directions  
  • Set oven for moderate, 350f.
  • Grease and flour two 8-inch round cake pans.
  • Sift together the first 4 ingredients.
  • Cream shortening; add sugar gradually; beat until fluffy.
  • Add eggs, one at a time: beat well after each addition.
  • Stir in vanilla and chocolate.
  • Add sifted dry ingredients, a little at a time, alternately with milk; stir only enough to blend well.
  • Pour into pans.
  • Bake 30 minutes or until top springs back when lightly touched with fingertip.
  • Cool in pans 5 minutes.
  • Remove; cool on a rack; frost.
