There are a few ways to learn something new such as from reading books or online, videos or with an actual teacher in person.

Before the internet I learned primarily from books. These days I learn mostly from videos and reading. I like books/websites the most detailed but of course a video is always most beneficial.

If you could learn something new what would it be? Knitting and drawing people are the 2 biggest for me. For some reason I struggle with both no matter what method I use to learn.

I like to use videos or books to start, and then when I have enough of a grasp to understand some of the basics, I like to learn from someone experienced. That way, hopefully they will notice things I'm doing the wrong way before it becomes a habit. But it really depends on what I'm learning. I have found the best "teacher" has been to jump in with both feet and experiment. Keen observation and trying different things side-by-side has made me learn faster than just about anything!

Hi!. When I'm learning a new craft or technique, I look it up online. Then, I always end up buying a physical book and downloading others.
Of course, YouTube is a great source of knowledge... I'm learning to embroider on an old treadle sewing machine by following a YouTuber (a woman who uploaded these videos years ago... and her videos are some of the best I've found out there.

I do the same to see first how difficult it is and then often buy a book  Post time 2025-06-21 17:39

i feel like it really depends on what you are trying to learn
for languages i say lots of videos but also a person to coresc you and explain some stuff, or correct your speaking, same with computer stuff, teachers are still the best
for stuff like crochet i prefer to be on my own most of the time with a video if i am learning a new stitch or something

I went to the library often as a kid. So I got lots of info from books. I also learned a lot from my mother and other people older than me. I learn from seeing. So having someone do something first helps me a lot.
Now I watch videos, but I do still like learning from people irl because they can give you feedback and correct you as you learn.

I love the internet, but I usually steer away from videos.  I like written instructions  - with lots of pictures - that I can put into my own words (not a language barrier, just a way of thinking).
I would love to learn so many things; the one I think about the most is learning to play the piano.

Nowadays i Learn a lot from internet.
But when i was young ( ahum..) from other people.
If you learn from other people you can always ask them something when they are with you.
From books or internet its harder because you can't ask anybody.
But if you a quick learner you can find videos on YouTube.

i learned the basic stitches (crochet) in person with a teacher.. I also tried to learn knitting in person but i failed miserably lol.. so many holes after HOURS..
Now, when i need to learn a new stitch (crochet), i watch dozens of youtube videos and then choose one that's easier to follow.

I understand that!  Post time 2025-06-21 17:37

I learned crochet from youtube, but I also follow lessons for other Creations by courses in real life with real teachers, like school.
sometimes a real course let you learn more specifick things, because you can ask questions and show what is your problem.

Classes definitely help as your able to quickly get answers and examples to specific questions.  Post time 2025-06-21 17:40

That's correct, some things you need to learn with real teachers to do it correct ;-)

I use the internet a lot, usually videos.  But I learn by doing, so I have to be able to try it as I'm watching.

I'd like to learn quilling next.  I have the stuff to do it, but haven't tried yet.
