  Spice Cake Large BatchYield: 8 eight-inch layers

  Ingredients  
  • 6 1/4  cup  flour, (1 pound, 9 ounces)
  • 3 1/3  tablespoon  baking powder
  • 1  teaspoon  salt
  • 1 3/4  cup  shortening, (14 ounces)
  • 3 1/4  cup  sugar, (1 pound, 10 ounces)
  • 8    eggs
  • 2 1/4  tablespoon mixed spices, soaked in 2 tablespoons boiling water
  • 1 1/4  cup  evaporated milk
  • 1 1/4  cup  water, mixed with evaporated milk

  Directions  
  • Sift flour, then measure.
  • Resift with baking powder and salt.
  • Cream shortening thoroughly.
  • Add sugar and continue creaming until light and fluffy.
  • Beat in the eggs, then the spices.
  • Add dry ingredients and diluted milk alternately, beginning and ending with dry ingredients.
  • Pour into greased layer cake pans.
  • Rake in a moderate oven (375f) about 25 minutes.

Spice cake is my favorite but have only made it from a box mix. Might try this one.  Thank you.
