[*]2cup sifted cake flour
[*]2teaspoonbaking powder
[*]1/2teaspoonbaking soda
[*]1/2teaspoonsalt
[*]1/2cupshortening
[*]2cup firmly packed brown sugar
[*]2 eggs
[*]1teaspoonvanilla
[*]4 squares unsweetened chocolate, melted
[*]1cupmilk, plus 2 tablespoons
Directions
[*]Set oven for moderate, 350f.
[*]Grease and flour two 8-inch round cake pans.
[*]Sift together the first 4 ingredients.
[*]Cream shortening; add sugar gradually; beat until fluffy.
[*]Add eggs, one at a time: beat well after each addition.
[*]Stir in vanilla and chocolate.
[*]Add sifted dry ingredients, a little at a time, alternately with milk; stir only enough to blend well.
[*]Pour into pans.
[*]Bake 30 minutes or until top springs back when lightly touched with fingertip.
[*]Cool in pans 5 minutes.
[*]Remove; cool on a rack; frost.
