Gingerbread

Ingredients
[*]1 1/2cupevaporated milk
[*]1 1/2tablespoonvinegar
[*]1 1/2quartflour, (1 1/2 pounds)
[*]1 1/2teaspoonbaking soda
[*]1 1/2teaspoonginger
[*]1 1/2teaspooncinnamon
[*]1 1/2teaspoonbaking powder
[*]3/4teaspooncloves
[*]3/4teaspoonsalt
[*]1 1/2cupsugar, (3/4 pound)
[*]2 1/4cupmolasses
[*]6 eggs
[*]1 1/2cup soft shortening, (3/4 pound)
Directions
[*]Mix evaporated milk and vinegar.
[*]Sift flour, then measure.
[*]Resift into mixing bowl with other dry ingredients.
[*]Add molasses to the soured milk.
[*]Stir into dry ingredients.
[*]Add eggs, one at a time, and beat thoroughly, then add the shortening.
[*]Pour into well greased layer cake pans.
[*]Bake in a moderate oven (375f) 25 to 30 minutes.
