[*]1cupevaporated milk
[*]1cupwater
[*]2tablespoon vinegar or lemon juice
[*]6tablespoonshortening, (3 ounces)
[*]2cupsugar, (1 pound)
[*]4 eggs, beaten
[*]8 1/2cupflour, (2 pounds, 2 ounces)
[*]1/4teaspoonsalt
[*]1teaspoonnutmeg
[*]2teaspoonbaking powder
[*]1teaspoonbaking soda
Directions
[*]Combine milk, water and vinegar.
[*]Cream shortening, add sugar and continue creaming until light and fluffy.
[*]Add beaten eggs and mix thoroughly.
[*]Sift flour, then measure.
[*]Resift with remaining dry ingredients, and add alternately to shortening-sugar mixture with the soured milk.
[*]Roll dough to 3/8 inch thickness, cut with doughnut cutter and fry in deep, hot fat (365f).
[*]Drain on unglazed paper and roll in confectioners or granulated sugar.
